Boom Lift Hire Sydney

Power Access supplies boom lift hire across Sydney from our depot and workshop at Arndell Park. Our fleet covers electric knuckle booms for indoor work, diesel 4×4 knuckle booms for rough outdoor sites, telescopic booms for straight-line height and outreach, and hybrid booms for jobs that move between the two. Hire Genie, JLG, Snorkel and Haulotte machines by the day, week or month, with delivery across the Sydney metro, Newcastle and Wollongong.

Not sure which boom lift suits the job? Call 1300 851 447 and we will match the machine to your height, reach and site conditions.

Which Boom Lift Do You Need?

Boom lifts carry people and tools up and out to the work. The right machine depends on where you are working, how high and how far you need to reach, and what the ground is like. Here is how our boom lift range breaks down.

Z40/23N RJ electric boom lift hire

Electric Knuckle
Booms

Battery powered and quiet with no exhaust, so they suit warehouses, shopping centres and fit-outs. Compact models like the Genie Z-30/20N drive through standard doorways and work around obstacles.

Diesel Knuckle
Booms

Diesel 4x4 articulating booms for outdoor construction and uneven ground. The hinged arm reaches up, out and over roofs, plant and structures to put the platform where the work is.

The 11-Metre Rule

Telescopic
Booms

A straight boom that extends for height and horizontal outreach. Diesel 4x4 telescopic booms suit large open sites and jobs where you need to reach well past an obstacle.

Hybrid
Booms

For sites where you move between indoor and outdoor conditions on the same job, so you can keep one machine on site instead of swapping between electric and diesel units.

Mast Booms and
Runabouts

Compact battery electric units that fit through doorways and down narrow aisles, with non-marking tyres for finished floors. Some models add a jib boom for extra reach.

Boom Lift Licences, Training and Safety

In NSW, operating a boom-type elevating work platform with a boom length of 11 metres or more is high risk work and needs a High Risk Work Licence (class WP). SafeWork NSW measures boom length as the longer of the platform height at full extension or the horizontal reach from the centre of rotation. For smaller boom lifts, operators should hold an EWPA Yellow Card, and we run Yellow Card courses weekly at Arndell Park or at your workplace. Read more in our guide to the 11-metre rule.

Boom Lift Hire FAQs

What is the difference between a knuckle boom and a telescopic boom?

A knuckle boom, also called an articulating boom, has a hinged arm that can reach up, out and over obstacles such as roofs or plant. A telescopic boom has a straight arm that extends, giving more height and horizontal outreach in open areas. We hire knuckle booms in electric and diesel 4×4 versions, and diesel 4×4 telescopic booms.

How high can your boom lifts reach?

Our boom lifts range from compact mast booms with a working height of 5.66 m up to large knuckle and telescopic booms with working heights over 25 m. Check the table above or call us to confirm the right size for your job.

Do I need a licence to operate a boom lift?

If the boom length is 11 metres or more, the operator needs a High Risk Work Licence (class WP) under NSW work health and safety rules. For smaller boom lifts, an EWPA Yellow Card shows the operator has been trained. We run Yellow Card training weekly at Arndell Park and on site.

How much does boom lift hire cost?

The price depends on the size and type of boom lift, how long you hire it and where it is delivered. Longer hires generally cost less per day than a single day. Call 1300 851 447 or send us your job details for an obligation-free quote.

Can I use a boom lift indoors?

Yes. Our electric boom lifts run quietly with no exhaust and have non-marking tyres to protect floors. Compact models such as the Genie Z-30/20N can drive through standard doorways.

Do you hire boom lifts outside Sydney?

Short-term hire covers the Sydney metro, Newcastle and Wollongong. For long-term projects, we can supply boom lifts Australia wide.

Is a cherry picker the same as a boom lift?

Yes. Cherry picker is the everyday name for a boom lift with a platform or basket on the end of an arm. Our cherry picker hire page explains how to choose one by job and height.

Can you service our own boom lift?

Yes. We offer on-site servicing, a preventative maintenance program with 3 monthly inspections, and full workshop facilities at our Arndell Park branch. See our EWP servicing page.
